The Youngstown Foundation Awards SHFB $15K for Purchase of a Delivery Truck (10/06/11)
The Youngstown Foundation has awarded Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley $15,000 towards the purchase of a new delivery truck. The new truck will be used to deliver more produce and food to Food Bank member agencies that do not have vehicles that can accommodate the amount of food needed to meet the ever-increasing number of people in our community that are hungry.
“We are extremely grateful to The Youngstown Foundation for this generous gift and their continued support,” said Michael Iberis, executive director, Second Harvest Food Bank. “This truck is going to enable the Food Bank to assist agencies by delivering more food to member agencies, which will ultimately help us feed more people.”
Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley distributes food to 153 hunger relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. These organizations include church pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens, shelters for battered women and after-school programs. The Food Bank is currently providing food to more than 13,000 people each week in the tri-county area.
